Messmate Stringybark

Wurundjeri name unknown

Eucalyptus obliqua

Messmate stringybark (or simply Messmate) is a species of wayut (stringybark) which grows from 10 to 90 metres tall with greyish-brown stringy bark. It has small white flowers from December to March.

The Wurundjeri-woiwurrung would use the inner bark of stringybarks to make into string for nets, as well as using the outer bark as kindling.

It grows in moist well drained soil in full sun to semi shade.
